The successful growth of Downtown Brooklyn requires thoughtful planning. From land use to transportation issues and workforce development, research and planning initiatives are an integral component of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership’s mission.

Transportation
Because Downtown Brooklyn is the borough’s busiest and largest transportation hub, the DBP focuses on several aspects of transportation planning including parking and traffic management and mass transit improvements. By working in conjunction with the public and private sectors, the DBP has helped implement and study several transportation initiatives that will enhance economic activity in Downtown Brooklyn, improve access to the neighborhood, and simultaneously preserve the area’s high quality of life.
Workforce Development
The DBP seeks to better connect local residents with job opportunities in existing Downtown businesses as well as with the new businesses that will result from future enhancements. The DBP works in partnership with government agencies, training providers and local community organizations to plan innovative workforce programs.
Business Improvement District Planning
The DBP manages three Downtown Brooklyn business improvement districts (BIDs) -- the Court-Livingston-Schemerhorn (CLS) BID, the Fulton Mall Improvement Association (FMIA), and the MetroTech BID. The DBP had worked with local property owners and merchants to create the CLS BID, which began operations in October 2007. Together, these BIDs provide supplementary services that enhance the local business environment and quality of life. For more information on BIDs, click here.
