City Point: The first phase of the project will be a four-story, retail building of approximately 50,000 square feet, located on Fulton Street Mall, Brooklyn's busiest shopping district. Designed by award-winning architects Cook + Fox and Greenberg Farrow, the project will be the first new building built on this stretch of Fulton Street in decades. The building reflects its prominent setting on Albee Square and across from the landmark Dime Savings Bank building with an innovative terracotta façade that is a modern interpretation of the great commercial buildings on Fulton Street. The new building will be tenanted by first-class retailers, further enhancing the desirability of Downtown Brooklyn as a leading retail destination.
The new building is the first phase of the City Point project which will ultimately comprise approximately 1.5 million square feet of new construction, including retail and commercial space and a mixture of affordable and market-rate housing. Planning and design is underway for additional development that will seamlessly connect to the first phase. When completed, City Point will be a transformative project with a critical mass of new retail, residential and commercial development supporting and complementing the thriving commercial, residential and academic communities already present in Downtown Brooklyn.
Hotels: There are many new hotels currently in development, ranging from mid-priced chains to full service boutiques. On Duffield Street, between Fulton Mall and Willoughby Street, hotels in development include a 184-room Hotel Indigo and a 180-room aloft by Starwood Hotels. On Schermerhorn Street, plans are also underway for a 250-room Holiday Inn.
Atlantic Yards: To be built over the rail yards near Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues, Atlantic Yards is a mixed use, multi-year development that will result in the creation of 6,800 mixed-income housing units, 247,000 square feet of retail, 800,000 square feet of office and hotel space, and the 18,000 seat Barclays Center, slated to be the home of the Nets basketball team. For more information, visit their website.
177 Livingston Street (completed): Located at Gallatin Place and Livingston Street, this project converted a former Macy's warehouse into 100,000 square feet of Class A office space, along with ground floor retail.
Retail: More than 1.6 million square feet of retail is planned or under construction in Downtown Brooklyn. Many residential developments along Flatbush Avenue and throughout the district will feature ground-floor retail that will stimulate the pedestrian environment. This new retail will offer a diverse set of options for a growing resident, visitor, and employee population.
