Billions of dollars in public and private investment will turn Downtown Brooklyn into one of the nation's most exciting urban centers. By 2012, Brooklyn’s skyline will be graced with new buildings designed by world-class talent such as Hugh Hardy, Studio MDA, Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM), and Behnisch Architects. Area residents, students, and local employees will have opportunities to relax in beautifully landscaped parks and plazas. Arts enthusiasts will take advantage of the BAM Cultural District, which will cultivate the city’s established and emerging avant-garde artists. Streetscape improvements along Fulton Street, Flatbush Avenue, and Boerum Place are already enhancing the pedestrian experience and tie together the main corridors of the district.
